“"Having been through the intervention and treatment process myself, I understand where the addict is at and what concerns he is feeling about the future. My approach to the intervention process employs my unique experience, gathers strength and compassion from the family and presents the gift of treatment in a loving and persuasive manner. The end result is that the addict views the solution of treatment as an opportunity not a punishment".” - Steven Lodge

Paying For Substance Abuse Treatment

You’ve performed your due diligence and have narrowed your inpatient treatment facility options down to two or three. And by due diligence, Im referring to matching the patient with the appropriate facility. Consultations with treatment professionals, physicians, therapists and interventionists will help you in this area.

Lets assume that the patient’s circumstances will only allow for a thirty day stay and the treatment facilities you are considering average $12,000. for the thirty days. One of the deciding factors on the selection of the treatment facility may very well be the financing or structure and terms of payment.

If you happen to be fortunate enough to have stacks of cash freely available, then payment may not be an issue. However, if you do not fall into this category there are some factors you might want to consider.

If you have medical insurance, investigate possible coverage for alcohol/drug treatment. Most facilities have a designated employee that will help you with the process in an effort to determine your total out of pocket costs. Typically, the facility will ask for basic information such as insured’s name, address, insurance company name, member/subscriber id, insurance company claims phone number, social security number, and date of birth.

If you are having difficulty coming up with necessary funds for treatment, it might be time to call in family and friends to help with financing. In most, if not all cases, addiction is a life threatening disease. Now is the time to present it that way to the family. If necessary, call parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and ask them to contribute to the treatment fund.

If you find yourself a thousand or two below what is priced for treatment, don’t despair. Call the facilities and ask if they will slide their fees down to accommodate you. It doesn’t hurt to ask. The worst thing that might happen is they say no. They may help you in other ways, for instance, deferring payments to a later date.

Keep in mind that in addition to saving lives, treatment centers are businesses and may offer some flexibility with their admissions. It’s certainly worth the call.
