There really is no substitute for having a trained professional conduct the intervention. The interventionist's professional background, firsthand experience with the disease, and objectivity are just a few compelling reasons for hiring a credentialed interventionist.
Having said that, I understand that there may be reasons why hiring a professional interventionist might not be possible. It might be the cost of hiring a professional, geographic distance, or a variety of other reasons.
